Fernando Pérez Algaba was a 41-year-old Argentine businessman who had become a social media personality flaunting a lavish lifestyle reportedly funded by cryptocurrency investments. In July 2023, his dismembered body was found in a suitcase near a stream in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Children discovered the remains.

The investigation revealed a web of debts, tax disputes, and alleged connections to organized crime. Pérez Algaba had been living well beyond any verifiable income. His social media presence - luxury cars, designer clothes, stacks of cash - was consistent with the influencer-crypto-bro lifestyle that has become increasingly dangerous in South America.
