If you create an account to comment: your email address, a password (stored only in scrambled form by our database provider, Supabase), the display name you choose and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google shares

The comments you post and the comments you like. Your display name and picture appear next to your comments; your email address is never shown

Our visit counter

CMZ counts its own page views. Each time a page opens we record the page address, the name of the website that sent you (for example google.com), whether you use a phone, tablet or computer, the time, and whether you are signed in. The counter does not keep your IP address and stores nothing on your device. If you press Accept on the cookie banner, it also stores a random visitor number on your device so we can tell new readers from returning ones. Search engine bots are left out, and only the site owner can see the figures.

Clicks on the adverts on CMZ are counted without any visitor number: which advert, where it sat and which page it was on.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It runs in Google's consent mode: until you press Accept, it sets no cookies. After you accept, Google collects details such as pages visited, time on the site, browser, device, the referring website and an approximate location worked out from your IP address.

Like every website, our hosting providers (Netlify for the pages, Supabase for comments, sign-in and the counter) keep standard short-term technical logs of requests.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Operate, maintain, and improve our website

Respond to your inquiries and submissions

Send newsletter emails (only if you opt in)

Analyze website traffic and user behavior to improve content

Show adverts and count clicks on them (without identifying you)

Supabase: stores comment accounts, comments, likes, newsletter sign-ups and our visit counter
